There are more exciting plays with which to fill highlight reels (not accepting @s at this time), but home runs … are very good. It’s been about 150 years, and homers still find new combinations and ways to exist that haven’t been done before. Talk about keeping the love alive. They put all of our still-together grandparents to shame. Gleyber Torres is the most recent example of the home run’s eternal fountain of freshness. Friday night’s contest against the Angels acted as the fourth notch in Torres’ belt, the fourth consecutive game he sent a ball out of the park. It’s a feat that has been accomplished many times over, but Torres so happens to be the youngest in American League history to do so.
Much to do about Gleyber Torres
Saturday’s Say Hey, Baseball talks about Gleyber Torres doing some baseball.

There’s been a small shockwave, powering a small murmur, rippling through baseball about Torres. Common thought doesn’t ever really have anyone breaking any kind of records. Mike Trout, as we so often discuss, was drafted 25th overall, which isn’t bad until you consider that he could power a small country with WAR, like his own version of vibranium. But Torres’ power wasn’t often discussed as he made his way up through the Yankees and Cubs farm system, more known for contact. For his first 12 games, when his bat kept the ball in the yard, no one thought much about Kiley McDaniel (and others) giving his raw power a 55/60 rating. In 28 big league games, he has tied his season-high home run mark, set in high-A in 2016.
Torres adds himself to the new crop of middle infielders shifting the position from typically offensively average at best, to integral pillars of lineups. His call-up mission has done well to recover the production lost from Didi Gregorius as he continues to hold onto his struggles. The Yankees may be coming to a crossroads filled with an overflow of players fit for the 25-man, but Torres has made himself a given, armed with his production and just a bit of history to make the deal a bit shinier.
- Ranking every expansion team in MLB history to show how freaky the Golden Knights are. Buncha weirdos.
- Aaron Judge made 2 incredible outfield assists with his cannon of an arm. There’s gotta be a way to make a cannon/WAR joke here, but I won’t do it.
- Some might say that paying this much for a baseball card is ridiculous, but I disagree. Think of all the things you could do with a small rectangle of cardboard.
- *5000 Candles In The Wind voice* Byyyyeee, byee, little Ramirez.
- The Mariners trade yesterday garnered lots of conversation, but not enough was said about the Dad WAR that was handled in the exchange.
- Ross Stripling is stripping batters down, garnering career-high strikeouts in three consecutive games.
- Just like in life, the Braves were fine ... until they very much were not.
- Hi. Hanley Ramirez. Read a lot of things about him here.
- The Baltimore Orioles or a bad season of Survivor? You be the judge
