Jayson Tatum keeps dropping players with the same nasty stepback

We’ve got a man down. WE’VE GOT A MAN DOWN.

I was just minding my own business watching Game 5 between the Celtics and 76ers on Wednesday night when I saw a grown man go down. My jaw dropped. Yours probably will, too.

Jayson Tatum drove baseline against Robert Covington with just over a minute left in the first quarter, but when Tatum stopped, Covington kept going. It was a stepback that sent RoCo’s tuchus thudding on the ground while the rookie Tatum cashed in on a cool mid-range jump shot. And it wasn’t the first time he’s used this move.

The stepback might be Tatum’s move now

Tatum dropped Nuggets guard Torrey Craig in the regular season with a move in the low post that has some similarities to the one he dropped Covington with. Both guys ended up on their butts, and Tatum made the shot in both instances.

It’s one of the quicker moves you can use to lose a defender who’s trying to check you. And if you ask Covington, the rookie Tatum’s got this one down pat already.
