It’s the All-Star break and there are no major men’s sports. Here is a mugshot of a pug. A pugshot

Good dog, or hardened criminal?

Cape May Police Department

It’s the middle of July, and the All-Star break means there’s only one exhibition game among the four major American pro sports leagues at the moment. We’re bored. You’re bored. The Cape May, New Jersey Police Department was especially bored.

Officers in the seaside town of 3,500 picked up a lost dog from one of its citizen’s lawns on New Jersey Avenue Sunday afternoon, but the discombobulated pug had no collar. The CMPD needed a way to find its owners, so it turned to the tools at its disposal; booking facilities and Facebook.

This is what happens when you run away from home. This guy was captured sneaking through yards on the 1300 block on New Jersey Avenue. #pugmug

“She didn’t even need a leash, she followed me around, I just said ‘c’mon girl,’ so I thought I’d give her a tour of the station and take her to her cell just like I would anybody,” arresting officer Michael LeSage, who somehow found the self restraint to not call the picture a “pugshot,” told ABC News. “We just hung out at the station here and had a good time.”

The pug, who police would later identify as a female named Bean, was later booked into a holding cell, where unconfirmed reports suggest she made pruno in and then drank from the toilet.

Fortunately, Bean’s stay didn’t last too long. Her owners came and picked her up later that afternoon. Bean and her owners returned Monday afternoon — with some thank you cookies for Patrolman LeSage:

Let this be a lesson for the rest of you tiny dogs on the Eastern seaboard. If you’re caught loitering, you WILL be arrested. By some ostensibly bored cops. And it will cost your owners some cookies you bail you out.
