In August, the Women’s Baseball World Cup will come to the United States for the first time as teams from all over the world try to unseat Japan, the five-time defending champions. For the US, playing on their home soil in Florida adds to the pressure and now we know which women will be representing the country as the 20-player roster has officially been released.
USA announces Women’s Baseball World Cup roster
20 players will try to win a championship on home soil.
The roster is as follows:

- Amanda Gianelloni; IF; Napoleonville, LA
- Brittany Gomez; OF; New Braunfels, TX
- Jade Gortarez; IF/RHP; Riverside, CA
- AJ Hamilton; C/OF; Tallahassee, FL
- Tamara Holmes; OF; Albany, CA
- Alex Hugo; IF/OF; Olathe, KS
- Anna Kimbrell; C; Fort Mill, SC
- Kylee Lahners; IF; Laguna Hills, CA
- Ashton Lansdell; IF/RHP; Marietta, GA
- Maggie Meidlinger; RHP; Sterling, VA
- Stacy Piagno; RHP; St. Augustine, FL
- Brittany Schutte; RHP/IF; Gainesville, FL
- Marti Sementelli; RHP; Newton, MA
- Emily Tsujikawa; RHP/IF; Redmond, WA
- Malaika Underwood; IF; San Diego, CA
- Kelsie Whitmore; OF/RHP; Temecula, CA
Holmes, Meidlinger, Sementelli, and Underwood were all on the roster for the 2006 World Cup, the last time USA took home the championship. Lansdell is only 16, the youngest on the roster, and Ila Borders is 43 years old and was the first women to get a win in a men’s baseball game 20 years ago, is a noted veteran who is a welcome sight on the list.
There are 14 total players on the roster who have played on the National Team before, and 11 players who won gold for the US at the 2015 Pan American Games. It’s a roster that has experience behind it and has the credentials to represent the US well in Florida next month.
