Canlo Alvarez says he would happily rematch Gennady Golovkin following their 12-round battle that was a fight-of-the-ever candidate on Saturday. Alvarez won the bout via majority decision, but many felt that Golovkin won the bout.
Canelo after win over Golovkin: ‘If the people want another fight, I’ll do it again’
Alvarez says he’d be game for a third fight if the fans want it. The fans almost certainly want it.

Speaking through a translator, Alvarez was asked about a third fight.
“If the people want another fight, I’ll do it again, but for now i’m going to enjoy the win with my family and my people,” Alvarez said.
The people almost assuredly want another fight indeed.
When asked if Alvarez thought it was a close fight after the 12th round, where one judge gave him the edge of Golovkin to make the crucial difference on the scorecard, Alvarez responded that it was a close bout.
“It was a very tight fight, and I’ve very excited and very emotional,” Alvarez responded, along with thanks for fans and Mexico.
The rematch, widely regarded as the biggest fight of the year, was originally scheduled for May 5 but was put off when Alvarez tested positive for clenbuterol, a banned substance. He blamed the positive drug test on tainted meat, but was still suspended for six months. In the interim, Golovkin fought and destroyed Vanes Martirosyan inside of two rounds.
In the first bout, the two fought to a split draw, which wasn’t itself controversial, but rather the outlier scorecard from Adalaide Byrd that went 118-110 in favor of Alvarez. It was much, much closer than that. The two boxers then went back and forth at each other in the media leading up to the bout.
Also on Saturday, Jaime Munguia defended his WBO junior middleweight title against Brandon Cook, finishing him in the third round.
The main card opened with about between Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez and Moises Fuentes, and was won by the former by knockout in the fifth round. After that, David Lemiuex needed just under three minutes to knock out Gary O’Sullivan. For full results on the night, plus our live blog on the action, go here.
