Vikings long snapper Kevin McDermott left the Rams game with a loss and part of his pinkie

Long snapping is a much tougher job than it seems.

What do Hall of Fame safety Ronnie Lott and Vikings long snapper Kevin McDermott have in common? They both lost pieces of their pinkie during a football game!

McDermott’s pinkie got stuck in the facemask of a Rams player during a made Dan Bailey field goal attempt Thursday night. If you focus on McDermott in the video below (No. 47) you can see him grabbing his hand after he snaps the ball.

McDermott missed a little time, but eventually came back in the game. Minnesota had tight end David Morgan snapping while McDermott was getting his pinkie attended to.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, McDermott got 16 stitches before going back in the game. The next day, McDermott had surgery to fix his finger and he should be good to go.

McDermott now joins an esteemed list of athletes that have mangled their fingers through their playing careers. McDermott’s situation was pretty gnarly, but still doesn’t top Lott opting to have parts of his pinkie AMPUTATED so he wouldn’t miss any games.

Reminder: NFL players are not like the rest of us.
