Nebraska quarterback Adrian Martinez went down with what appeared to be a right leg injury late in the fourth quarter of the Huskers’ Week 1 loss to Colorado. Scott Frost says Martinez is day-to-day and might play in Week 3 against Troy.
Nebraska questions the intentions of a Colorado player on the play that injured Adrian Martinez
The freshman QB had been having a good game when he left in a key moment late in the fourth quarter.

But the Huskers want to know more about the play that injured their young QB.
Nebraska submitted video of the play the Pac-12 and Big Ten offices. Frost stopped short of accusing CU linebacker Jacob Callier of foul play, but he suggested Nebraska didn’t like the manner in which Martinez got hurt. Via the Lincoln Journal-Star:
On Monday, Frost was asked if it was a dirty play. The first-year Husker coach stopped short of calling it intentional.
”You never want to think someone on the football field would try to intentionally hurt someone,” Frost said.
However, he added, “We have an angle that doesn’t look very good. I don’t know what the intentions were, but the angle out there that I’ve seen doesn’t look good at all.”
The Huskers were up 28-27 when Martinez went down. He had to be helped off by two staffers. Up to that point, Martinez had completed 15 of 20 passes for 187 yards with one touchdown, one pick, and a lost fumble. The true freshman had been having a good game on the ground as well, with 15 rushes for 117 yards and two touchdowns.
Martinez was later on the sideline with his knee wrapped in ice.
The Huskers’ backup, walk-on sophomore named Andrew Bunch, had the responsibility of leading Nebraska on a comeback drive down 33-28 after a Colorado score with just over a minute to go. Despite getting Nebraska inside CU’s 25, Bunch couldn’t finish the drive with a touchdown. The Huskers took a disappointing loss in their first game under Frost.
This was the Huskers’ first game of the season, after their scheduled opener against Akron was cancelled due to severe weather.
