Chiefs’ new Super Bowl rings have an error in the design

The Chiefs are the best team in the NFL, but apparently can’t design an accurate Super Bowl ring.

History is written by the winners. This is undeniable.

If and when you win, you get to talk the talk because you walked the walk.

But if you are writing in something permanent (something like ink or DIAMONDS) then you better make sure that what you are writing is correct.

The Kansas City Chiefs apparently did not get this memo.

There is a big mistake on the Chiefs’ latest Super Bowl ring

Let me say right off the bat that if you have a mistake on your third Super Bowl ring in a five-year span then ultimately you are doing alright for yourself. Rich people problems as they say.

But a mistake is a mistake and it appears that the Kansas City Chiefs have one on their Super Bowl rings. The Chiefs received their latest jewels in a ceremony on Thursday evening and as we have seen across sports in recent history there are all sorts of nods to what happened en route to their title. As one example there is a shout out to the play that won the game in overtime (it was only the second Super Bowl to need extra time).

Stuff like this is very cool. Everyone affiliated with the team can look back on it over time and re-live one of the greatest moments of their lives. Very cool attention to detail.

Attention to what, though?

There are a billion (basically) diamonds and details in this ring and one of them is the actual and literal path that the Chiefs took to winning it all. Last season featured Patrick Mahomes having to play a road playoff game (lol, amazing) for the first time ever. He actually did twice in the Divisional Round and AFC Championship Game.

This is true because the Chiefs were the No. 3 seed in the AFC and that is the way that the playoff format works. The No. 1 seed gets a bye, the No. 2 seed plays the No. 7 seed, the No. 3 seed plays the No. 6 seed, so on and so forth.

SOMEBODY DID NOT TELL THE PEOPLE WHO DESIGNED AND MADE THESE RINGS THAT INFORMATION. THE MIAMI DOLPHINS ARE IMPROPERLY LISTED AS THE No. 7 SEED WHEN THEY WERE THE No. 6. I AM IN ALL CAPS BECAUSE THESE RINGS COST A LOT OF MONEY AND ARE FACTUALLY INCORRECT.

Funny enough, these playoffs included a No. 7 seed winning a playoff game for the first time in NFL history (this was only the third year that the NFL had that many playoff teams in each conference). Ironically, given that I am the Dallas Cowboys person around SB Nation, it was the Green Bay Packers who defeated America’s Team in embarrassing fashion. Cool.

This isn’t about my bad team, though. This is about the best team in the world and how even they are apparently victims to typos and oopsies. Ultimately I doubt anybody cares about this because, well, this is an amazing ring that celebrates doing the most impressive thing that you can in the NFL, but if you were the person who cut the check for them wouldn’t you be a little miffed?

Probably so!
