Round 1

1.
New Jersey Devils
Nico Hischier, CenterHalifax Mooseheads, QMJHL
More flashy than Patrick but no less responsible or intelligent, Hischier is a smooth-skating playmaker at center. Racked up 86 points and 38 goals in the Quebec junior league, his first full year in North America. Hischier is elusive with the puck on his stick and skates very well evading defenders looking to complete plays. Needs work defensively, but raw, first-line upside is there.
2.
Philadelphia Flyers
Nolan Patrick, CenterBrandon Wheat Kings, WHL
Patrick is a future first-line center with a terrific all-around game. He makes quick decisions and rarely makes mistakes due to his high hockey I.Q, can complete passes with ease and loves to disrupt play the other way. Not afraid to play use his size. Comparisons to Jonathan Toews or Anze Kopitar are high, but warranted. Injuries (sports hernia) are a concern.
3.
Dallas Stars
Miro Heiskanen, DefensemanHIFK, Liiga (Finland)
Possibly the best defenseman in the draft. Heiskanen is a puck-mover with good vision and a knack for making the right pass or move to execute zone exits. Not the biggest guy, but his stickwork makes up for it in the corners. Not flashy, but safe and reliable. And supremely confident. Played well with men in Finland's top league this year.
4.
Colorado Avalanche
Cale Makar, DefensemanBrooks Bandits (AJHL), committed to UMass Amherst (2017-18)
Fastest-riser in the draft. Makar is an under-sized (5'11) offensive defenseman with some of the most impressive instincts in the draft. Owns a deceptively good shot from the point or off the rush, good speed, aggression and vision. A future power play QB if he can prove his size isn't a problem defensively at the pro level. Playing for UMass Amherst in 2017-18.
5.
Vancouver Canucks
Elias Pettersson, CenterTimra, SHL; Vaxjo Lakers, SHL (2017-18)
Playmaking forward with terrific speed and skills with the puck. Load to defend against one-on-one, but also pretty slim. Might be easy to knock off the puck if he doesn't add muscle. But you can't teach speed or instincts, and Pettersson owns plenty of both. High ceiling. Winger or center.
6.
Vegas Golden Knights
Cody Glass, CenterPortland Winterhawks, WHL
The two-way Portland center caught attention this year with 32 goals and 94 points. His NHL projection shifted from a role player to an impact player. High IQ and energy all over the ice, and really came along as a power play threat this season. Well-rounded upside means Hockey Men™ will drool over this kid.
7.
New York Rangers
(from Coyotes)
Lias Andersson, CenterHV71, SHL; Frölunda HC, SHL (2017-18)
Solid two-way center who lacks size but not work ethic. You don't draft him thinking he'll win scoring titles; you draft him knowing he'll bring stability down the middle of your lineup. Also looks like Daniel Bruhl. Would draft.
8.
Buffalo Sabres
Casey Mittelstadt, CenterEden Prairie High School (Minnesota); committed to University of Minnesota (2017-18)
A finesse-first center heading to the University of Minnesota next year. Mittelstadt is great off the rush and expends energy all over the ice. Great wrist shot. Agile, but not especially fast. More of a long-term project than other top centers in the class, but worth the wait.
9.
Detroit Red Wings
Michael Rasmussen, CenterTri-City Americans, WHL
As tall as two Kailer Yamamotos. I think. He's 6'6, with good vision and good puck skills. You could totally see him being a quality net-front presence on the power play, with defensive diligence to chip in on penalty kills. Solid, big two-way center.
10.
Florida Panthers
Owen Tippett, Right WingMississauga Steelheads, OHL
Arguably the best pure scorer in the draft. Draws comparisons to Phil Kessel for his speed and NHL-ready shot. You want this guy on your power play, where he can create space on his own to finish plays. The knock is he doesn't compete hard enough the other way; get him to buy in, though, and that speed can make him a dangerous complete package.
11.
Los Angeles Kings
Gabe Vilardi, CenterWindsor Spitfires, OHL
12.
Carolina Hurricanes
Martin Necas, CenterHC Kometa Brno, Czech
Along the same lines as Pettersson, only smaller and flashier. Necas is a strong forechecker who always seems to either create or find openings for himself on scoring chances. A deceptive shot, too. Like Pettersson, needs to builk up to maintain effectiveness with his aggressive style. Competitiveness and skills aren't in question, though.
13.
Vegas Golden Knights
(from Jets)
Nick Suzuki, CenterOwen Sound Attack, OHL
A year ago, he was projected late first round pick due to his elite defensive abilities (he's a nightmare on the PK). After a massive 2016-17 campaign (45 goals, 96 points), Suzuki is a bonafide two-way stud prospect. Quick. Smart. Apparently well-rounded. Size and over-aggression are his biggest flaws.
14.
Tampa Bay Lightning
Cal Foote, DefensemanKelowna Rockets, WHL
15.
Vegas Golden Knights
(from Islanders)
Erik Brannstrom, DefensemanHV71, SHL
Oh, you thought we were done with small offensive defensemen in this first round. Nope. Another PP quarterback in the making with smarts but an even smaller size than Makar or Heiskanen. Still a quality prospect.
16.
Calgary Flames
Juuso Valimaki, DefensemanTri-City Americans, WHL
Another puck-moving defenseman, but one that impressed in his first full year on North American ice. Combo of speed (not agility, though) and vision allow him to escape from his own zone regularly and start plays up-ice. Generally mistake-free; capable of risk-taking but not prone to it. Needs work on skating. Not overly physical.
17.
Toronto Maple Leafs
Timothy Liljegren, DefensemanRögle BK, SHL
The best defenseman in the draft a year ago, but fell hard after a year of illness and lack of development at Sweden's highest level. Fears are that he's a one-trick player: owns good creativity and skills for an offensive defenseman, but is that all he is? Still worth a flier on, of course.
18.
Boston Bruins
Urho Vaakanainen, DefensemanJYP, Liiga; SaiPa, Liiga (2017-18)
19.
San Jose Sharks
Joshua Norris, CenterU.S. National U18 Team, USDP; committed to University of Michigan (2017-18)
20.
St. Louis Blues
Robert Thomas, CenterLondon Knights, OHL
Man, it's a hot one
Like seven inches from the midday sun
Well, I hear you whispering in the words, to melt everyone
But you stay so cool
My muñequita, my Spanish Harlem Mona Lisa
You're my reason for reason
The step in my groove
And if you said this life ain't good enough
I would give my world to lift you up
I could change my life to better suit your mood
Because you're so smooth
21.
New York Rangers
Filip Chytil, Left WingHC Zlin, Czech
22.
Edmonton Oilers
Kailer Yamamoto, Center/Right WingSpokane Chiefs, WHL
Yes, he's 5'8. Yes, that's small. But Yamamoto is as skilled as any forward in the class, with puck skills that leave your mouth agape at times. And coaches will love how hard he works at either end. He plays like he doesn't know how small he is, and that's great. Johnny Gaudreau succeeded. Why not Yamamoto?
23.
Arizona Coyotes
(from Wild)
Pierre-Olivier Joseph, DefensemanCharlottetown Islanders, QMJHL
24.
Winnipeg Jets
(from Blue Jackets)
Kristian Vesalainen, Left Wing/Right WingFrolunda, SHL; HPK, Liiga (2017-18)
Toolsy winger coming off a down-year that raised some questions about just how dynamic he will be. He's aggressive and good with the puck, but not consistent enough. He might end up paying off, but he's not as sure a thing as most thought a year ago.
25.
Montreal Canadiens
Ryan Poehling, CenterSt. Cloud State
Poehling is a big center who loves to throw his body around. Some outlets have described him as a two-way player, though he might fit more of a powe forward role. But he earned that moniker for a reason; he's responsible and mature in his own end. A team player that coaches will love, even if his ceiling is more middle-six.
26.
Dallas Stars
(from Blackhawks)
Jake Oettinger, GoaltenderBoston University
Considered the best goalie in the draft class, Oettinger has the combo of size (6'4) and agility NHL nets trend toward these days. He had a terrific freshman year with Boston University and has a bright future.
27.
Philadelphia Flyers
(from Capitals via Blues)
Morgan Frost, Center/Left WingSault Ste. Marie Greyhounds, OHL
28.
Ottawa Senators
Shane Bowers, CenterWaterloo Black Hawks, USHL; committed to Boston University (2017-18)
Oh, look. Another two-way center. The future Boston University forward is another in a good crop of them, though he leans more toward the offensive side of things with strong puck-handling skills and a good shot. Not a big player (6'0), but that's not an ender in this NHL.
29.
Chicago Blackhawks
(from Ducks via Stars)
Henri Jokiharju, DefensemanPortland Winterhawks, WHL
30.
Nashville Predators
Eeli Tolvanen, Left WingSioux City Musketeers, USHL; 2017-18 team TBD
Scouts love his shot as much as Tippett's. Slapper, wrister, snapper, off the rush or at a stand-still ... Tolvanen could beat NHL goalies with it already. Obviously out-grew the USHL this year, so he'll play for Boston College in 2017-18. He'll have to out-grow his "floater" tendencies in his own zone, too. Either a one-trick goal scorer or something more; too early to tell.
31.
St. Louis Blues
(from Pittsburgh Penguins)
Klim Kostin, Right WingDynamo Moskva, KHL; likely AHL-bound in 2017-18
Stop me if you've heard this before: here's a big Russian winger expected to go in the top 15 picks. Like Valeri Nichushkin and Denis Gurianov before him, Kostin is thought of highly with some questions attached. Will his shoulder heal well? His he more than a drive-to-the-net guy? Is he as committed to defense as he seems? Is he going to stay in the NHL or leave for Russia? Would we ask these things about him if he wasn't Russian?

Round 2

32.
Colorado Avalanche
Conor Timmins, DefensemanSault Ste. Marie Greyhounds, OHL
33.
Vancouver Canucks
Kole Lind, Right WingKelowna Rockets, WHL
34.
Vegas Golden Knights
Nicolas Hague, DefensemanMississauga Steelheads, OHL
Don't let his 6'6 frame fool you: Hague is a solid two-way defenseman, not just a large pillar in his own end. Owns a great shot and passing skills that made him an asset on Mississauga's power play, but obviously not a liability in his own end either.
35.
Philadelphia Flyers
(from Arizona)
Isaac Ratcliffe, Left WingGuelph Storm, OHL
A big winger who took big strides this year with Guelph in the OHL. Will hit anything that moves, as long as he can get there (his skating needs improvement). He's a project, with inconsistencies that must be ironed out. But a power forward in the making.
36.
New Jersey Devils

45.
Columbus Blue Jackets

46.

Mario Ferraro, DefensemanDes Moines Buccaneers (USHL); committed to UMass Amherst (2017-18)
50.
Anaheim Ducks
(from Sharks via Maple Leafs)
Maxime Comtois, Left WingVictoriaville, QMJHL
Another prospect who tumbled down draft rankings after being a top ten pick a year ago. He's fast, plays with an edge and leaves a lot out there on the forecheck. Comtois just didn't score much this year. Can he find that touch again?
51.
Pittsburgh Penguins
