How to watch the top College Football games of Week 5

With all but one AP Top 25 team in action, Week 5 is sure to add to some entertaining and impactful storylines to the season.

This week the Saturday evening lineup offers up two games worthy of top-10 battles, but plenty of intrigue can be found elsewhere on the schedule. Here are the college football games you cannot miss this week.

Syracuse (4-0, 1-0 ACC) at No. 3 Clemson (4-0, 1-0 ACC)

Date/Time: Saturday, September 29 at 12:00 p.m. ET

Location: Clemson Memorial Stadium, Clemson, South Carolina.C.

TV: ABC

Last season, Clemson traveled up to Syracuse on a Friday night and suffered its only loss of the regular season. It didn’t derail the Tigers’s run to the playoff (a semifinal loss to Alabama), but it did give Dino Babers’s rising program a statement-making win. Can an undefeated ‘Cuse pull it off again? Much of it will depend on quarterback Eric Dungey’s ability to make plays in the open field, and even more so, if his offensive line can keep him upright against Clemson’s soon-to-be NFL pass rushers Clelin Ferrell and Austin Bryant. This will also be Tigers freshman QB Trevor Lawrence’s first start.

No. 4 Ohio State (4-0, 1-0 Big Ten) at No. 9 Penn State (4-0, 1-0 Big Ten)

Date/Time: Saturday, September 29 at 7:30 p.m. ET

Location: Beaver Stadium, University Park, Pennsylvania.

TV: ABC

It’s another primetime showcase for the Buckeyes with Big Ten East implications. The winner will be in the driver’s seat in the division by virtue of having beaten a top-10 team. However, both will still have to play Michigan and Michigan State so the race will by no means be decided Saturday night. Ohio State’s defense has shown it can be susceptible to big plays, which is a good sign for Trace McSorley and the rest of the Penn State offense. Expect a shootout as OSU offers plenty of firepower with Dwayne Haskins, Mike Weber, J.K. Dobbins, and a deep receiving corps.

No. 7 Stanford (4-0, 2-0 Pac-12) at No. 8 Notre Dame (4-0)

Date/Time: Saturday, September 29 at 7:30 p.m. ET

Location: Notre Dame Stadium, South Bend, Indiana.

TV: NBC

Opposite Ohio State-Penn State, you’ll have an additional top-10 matchup pulling for your attention in Stanford-Notre Dame. College Football Playoff implications? Check. Offensive playmakers? Check. (sSee: Stanford’s Bryce Love and J.J. Arcega-Whiteside). A defense capable of stuffing the run, forcing turnovers, and creating havoc? Check. (i.e. Notre Dame). If you like smash mouth football this one will be worthwhile.

No. 20 BYU (3-1) at No. 11 Washington (3-1, 2-0 Pac-12)

Date/Time: Saturday, September 29, at 8:30 p.m. ET

Location: Husky Stadium, Seattle, Washington

TV: FOX

While everyone focuses on Notre Dame as the independent team most likely to grab an at-large spot in the New Year’s Six Bowl picture, BYU is quietly aiming to put a dent in those plans. The Cougars already shocked then-No. 6 Wisconsin on the road a few weeks ago and head northwest with hopes of doing the same to Washington. Both teams rank top 25 in the country in fewest points allowed per game. Having already thrown four interceptions this year, Huskies QB Jake Browning will have to secure the football to make sure they don’t lose a second game and are completely eliminated from the playoff picture.

Ole Miss (3-1, 0-1 SEC) at No. 5 LSU (4-0, 1-0 SEC)

Date/Time: Saturday, September 29 at 9:00 p.m. ET

Location: Tiger Stadium, Baton Rouge, Louisianaa.

TV: ESPN

With no postseason possibilities, Ole Miss keeps playing with house money in 2018. That didn’t work out well two weeks ago against Alabama. LSU shouldn’t be as difficult, though. This is a fun SEC West battle pitting strength against strength: Rebels QB Jordan Ta’amu tossing deep balls to the likes of A.J. Brown and D.J. Metcalf with Tigers defensive backs Greedy Williams and John Battle trying to contain them.
