How to watch the top College Football games of Week 7

With the College Football Playoff looming over the not-so-far horizon, Week 7 is where dreams are made and broken. This week has a Midwest slugfest, an SEC showdown, and a matchup that may decide the fate of the Pac-12.

The college football pecking order was torn asunder in week 6 with marquees wins and surprising losses piling up all over the country. Big W’s from Texas, who beat Oklahoma in a 48-45 barn burner, and Notre Dame, who routed Virginia Tech 45-34, have let them both leapfrog into the Top 10, while stumbles from marquee teams like Auburn, Stanford, and LSU have scrambled the playoff picture. (Alabama won handily and remains number 1, of course.)

No. 10 UCF (5-0) at Memphis (4-2)

Date/Time: Saturday, October 13 at 3:30 p.m. ET

Location: Liberty Bowl Stadium, Memphis, Kentucky

TV: ESPN2, ABC

Memphis is out for revenge. The Tigers fell to UCF in last year’s shootout of an AAC Championship, but they’ve returned this year with a reloaded defense and another prolific offense. Sure, Riley Ferguson and Anthony Miller are gone, but Memphis is still a squad of burners that can turn games into a track meet. Good luck keeping up. On the other side of the ball is UCF’s stud playcaller McKenzie Milton who is making his case for taking home the school’s first Heisman. If he puts up a few box scores like he did at UConn in Week 1 (5 TDs, 75% completion rate), he may just be striking a pose come springtime.

UCLA (0-5) at Cal (3-2)

Date/Time: Saturday, October 13 at 7:00 p.m. ET

Location: California Memorial Stadium, Berkeley, California

TV: PACN

Chip Kelly’s first year as the Bruins’ head coach has been — well, it hasn’t been pretty. They’re still looking for their first win of the season. The offense has been sputtering, though true freshman QB Dorian Thompson-Robinson has shown some flashes of brilliance while stepping in for the injured Wilton Speight. (Time will tell which of the pair claims the majority of UCLA’s snaps.) There’s also plenty of new faces on the O-line, a development that hasn’t done either of the signal callers any favors. Before their back-to-back losses to open up their conference slate, Cal looked like a team on the rise. Their defense, led by DBs Cam Bynum and Elijah Hicks as well as LB Jordan Kunaszyk, is stifling and they’ll be ready to take advantage of an inexperienced Bruins offense. Both squads will be looking to turn around their fortunes this week.

No. 15 Wisconsin (4-1) at No. 12 Michigan (5-1)

Date/Time: Saturday, October 13 at 7:30 p.m. ET

Location: Michigan Stadium, Ann Arbor, Michigan

TV: ABC

The Wolverines stumbled in their first big test against Notre Dame, falling 24-17 in their season opener in South Bend. But this week presents a chance for redemption for Jim Harbaugh’s squad, who come in riding a five game winning streak. Their matchup with the Badgers is the first of three straight games against currently ranked opponents, a gauntlet whose tone will be set this Saturday. For the Badgers, this is padding their resume as they look for a way into a New Year’s Day bowl game. They’re sitting atop the eastern division of the Big 10 and a W against the Wolverines could be exactly what it takes to push them over the edge. Look for Wisconsin RB Jonathan Taylor to get another 25 or more carries as he looks to ram through a Wolverines defense that returned 9 out of 11 starters from their 2017 squad.

No. 2 Georgia (6-0) at No. 13 LSU (5-1)

Date/Time: Saturday, October 13 at 3:30 p.m. ET

Location: Tiger Stadium, Baton Rouge, Louisiana

TV: CBS

This SEC grudge match is the beginning of an unconscionably tough set of games for both teams. Georgia leaves Death Valley only to take on Florida, Kentucky, and Auburn; the Tigers’ next houseguests are Mississippi State and Alabama. That means that this game has serious postseason implications, with Georgia looking to maintain their stranglehold on #2, while the Tigers will be looking to rebound after a brutal loss to No. 12 Florida in Gainesville. Somehow, the Bulldogs might have a better running back corps than they did last year when Nick Chubb got them to the BCS Championship Game. Elijah Esaias Holyfield and D’Andre Swift are the best RB tandem in football, full-stop, and they’ll give the Tigers defense all they can handle. For LSU, they’ll be looking to get back in the playoff picture with a signature win against a big time opponent. Stud LB Devin White will be looking to stop Georgia’s running game, while CB Greedy Williams will be looking to build upon his absurdly prolific college career. (He’s a sophomore and might be the best CB in college football already.)

No. 7 Washington (5-1) at No. 17 Oregon (4-1)

Date/Time: Saturday, October 13 at 3:30 p.m. ET

Location: Autzen Stadium, Eugene, Oregon

TV: ESPN2, ABC

It’s a bit of a role reversal this weekend in Eugene, with Washington coming in as favorites over the Ducks even after a Rose Bowl scare in Week 6 against winless UCLA. The Huskies were a score away from beating Auburn in Alabama and keeping a perfect record, but they’re still looking to claim the Pac-12 crown, and a W against Oregon would bring them one step closer to that goal. The Ducks let one slip away against Stanford in Week 4 and will be looking to get their season back on track with a signature win against a ranked team after pummeling Cal last week in Berkeley. That starts and stops with the dangerous duo of RB CJ Verdell and QB Just Herbert, the latter of whom has looked like a legit Heisman candidate so far.
