Green Bay is running out of streets to name after Packers

It’s not uncommon, particularly in smaller one-team cities, for streets to be named after local athletic legends. Often it’s just an honorary subtitle, and only on one or two streets, but not in Green Bay. From Kevin Clark of the Wall Street Journal:

There are seven streets in the area named for Packer legends. The latest is Donald Driver Way, named after the former star wide receiver. It was christened in June and avoided all problems by being about 3 miles from the other named streets near the stadium.

This has set a troublesome precedent. For instance, if Driver deserves a street, so does Super Bowl-winning head coach Mike McCarthy, but renaming streets is expensive (especially, as Clark mentions, if you want to avoid confusion with Joe McCarthy, which you do) and there just aren’t that many streets available for renaming.
