Ian Mahinmi joins the Hall of Fame of non-helper-uppers

No help for you, J.J. Barea.

Not helping opponents up when they’ve fallen is an art form. Amar’e Stoudemire’s fake-out in the direction of a grasping Shane Battier is the Mona Lisa of this art form:

The hand offered, the hand retracted at the perfect moment, the shorts-pull -- it’s all perfect. It’s beautiful. It has imitators, too. Fletcher Cox did a lovely job shaking off Philip Rivers when the quarterback tried to use his hand for assistance this past football season:

That’s a different style. Cox was not offering his hand, even falsely. The victim grabbed Cox’s hand and Cox dismissed him violently. Excellent work. Especially because it’s Philip Rivers.

Wednesday night, Ian Mahinmi offered his own submission to the non-helping-upping museum:

Fierce block/tackle + reach out half-assedly then run away + leave J.J. Barea to get his sad little self helped up by a referee = INSTANT HALL OF FAME NON-HELPER-UPPER. CONGRATULATIONS, IAN, YOU DID IT.
