Stephon Marbury got in a brawl in China, maybe got locked behind a door

Miss u, Steph.

In case you haven’t been following him since he faded out of the NBA, 36-year-old Stephon Marbury has been playing professional basketball in China for four years, and quite successfully (four all-star selections, one championship). These days, he’s on the Beijing Ducks. After sitting almost two months with an injury, Marbury returned to play for the Ducks Wednesday night, and got into some drama (1:30ish):

From Beijing Cream, Marbury got in a physical altercation with an opposing player, then fans ruthlessly berated the opposing player and the ref, then this happened:

There’s more to this story: while officials were sorting out free throws, Shandong forward Donnell Harvey engaged Marbury’s trainer in a bit of trash talk, with the two apparently agreeing to meet after the game to throw down.

...

Afterwards, players and personnel from both teams began shoving while heading down to their respective dressing rooms. I saw a Chinese player from Shandong punch Marbury’s interpreter in the face during the post-game scuffle.

Fans blocked Shandong’s bus afterwards, because that’s just what happens. Marbury and many of his teammates have seen it firsthand.

Donnell Harvey! As in, former drafted-and-immediately-traded Knick Donnell Harvey. The Knicks are everywhere. So, Marbury got in a fight, his opponents got upraided by the crowd, then Harvey tried to organize a more formal brawl after the game, then scuffling continued into the locker rooms. So much so, apparently, that Marbury had to be restrained behind a door somehow by a police officer?

They surely didn’t arrest Steph or anything, but they did apparently hold him behind a door. Makes sense, since they were breaking up a fight in the tunnel. Either way, THEY TRIED TO PUT HIM IN A BOX!

Anyway, I’m glad to know Steph’s still Steph, even a world away.

Update:

Here’s the explanation of Steph’s time behind the door. Not as sinister as it looks:
