Tuesday’s Hawks-Pistons broadcast was just a live shot of the Jumbotron

The Hawks and Pistons had a game scheduled for the end of January that was postponed because of HOTHLANTA. The game was rescheduled for Tuesday night, but neither the Detroit nor the Atlanta local TV network had arrangements to broadcast it. So, if you wanted, as I did, to watch the game on NBA League Pass, what you got was a live-stream of a camera pointed at the Jumbotron in Philips Arena. Like the bootleg-est of bootleg illegal streams, but on a broadcast with national scope.

The jankiness was evident right from the outset, both from the fuzziness of the video-of-a-video (and remote announcer) and from the inexplicable reverse-soccer clock:

And then things got more fun. The Jumbotron doesn’t *always* play live game action, so you got occasional glimpses of ads in the middle of play:

And we also got to see the pump-up exhortations they broadcast in Atlanta, including the ones for opponent free throws, which are GREAT:

That’s like a whole corner of the CAGE FIGHT in one Jumbotron video.

So yeah, because of bad weather and weird inconveniences, we all got the live Atlanta Hawks experience Tuesday night. Going where few have gone before!
