Hey remember how when you were 15 years old you were completely incompetent and offered nothing of value to the world because that’s just what it is to be 15? Keeping that in mind, know this: Catherine “CiCi” Bellis -- San Francisco native, 1,211th-ranked women’s tennis player, and 15-year-old human -- won her debut match at the U.S. Open on Tuesday afternoon.

She’s the youngest in almost two decades to win.

Bellis didn’t just win -- she took down 12-seeded Dominika Cibulkova in three sets. Cibulkova was just a finalist in the Australian Open. And either way, a 15-year-old winning an Open match against anyone at all isn’t something that just happens all the time:
Cici Bellis, 15, becomes the youngest to win a match at the U.S. Open since Anna Kournikova in 1996. #usopen
— SI Tennis (@SI_Tennis) August 26, 2014 The USA has several promising young women competing in this Open, but folks probably weren’t ready to count Bellis among them just yet. Maybe time to do that.
