Former Raven gives kidney to his brother, a former Steeler

Ma’ake Kemoeatu gave up football so he could donate a kidney to his brother Chris.

When former Steelers guard Chris Kemoeatu needed a kidney transplant this summer, his brother, former Ravens tackle Ma’ake Kemoeatu, didn’t hesitate to step forward. From For The Win:

“I’ve seen him struggle and the last three years of his career, fighting through a lot because of his kidney,” Ma’ake said at a press conference at the University of Maryland Medical Center on Wednesday. “When we found out he needed a transplant, we had to stop our careers because his health was most important to us.”

After the 2011 season, the pain was too much and Chris stopped playing football. Ma’ake ended his career with the Ravens after the 2012 season to be with his brother.

Both Kemoeatus are doing well after a successful transplant at the end of August. The article has much more on the relationship between the two Super Bowl champion brothers and the process of exchanging a kidney.

Given recent events, this is a much-needed reminder that plenty of NFL players are fantastic people who do fantastic things for one another.
