North Carolina State freshman forward Abdul-Malik Abu attended his friend Deah Barakat’s wedding in December and, as a wedding gift, promised him wins against rivals Duke and UNC:

“I’m gonna beat Duke and UNC for you as my wedding gift.”
On February 10, Barakat and his new wife and sister-in-law, Yusor Abu-Salha and Razan Abu-Salha, were tragically killed in the shooting in Chapel Hill, a loss Abu took to Instagram to mourn.
In early January, NC State upset Duke at home, and Tuesday, they took a road win off the Tar Heels. Abu kept his promise, and posted a tribute immediately afterward:
“Thanks Deah for being a special person to all of us. This one was for you your family and and the wonderful people of #WPN !!!!! Love you man.”
