This fan at the ACC Tournament had a chance to win $1 million with a halfcourt shot. He did not win $1 million:
We feel for you, Horrible Halfcourt Shot Guy
This guy had a half-court shot for a million bucks. He, um, missed. https://t.co/mlNAZrb5OL
— Ryan Fagan (@ryanfagan) March 14, 2015 The run-up ... the release ... it just all went very poorly. The ball barely entered the paint, let alone reaching the basket.
This brings back the vivid memory of sitting on a bench at camp, watching a baseball soar over the backstop and land at my feet, grabbing it and rearing back to chuck it over the fence, then slipping and slamming it straight down into the dirt in front of all the older kids. Or standing up after having sat cross-legged on a hill at a tennis match, then falling, realizing my feet had fallen asleep, and rolling all the way down the hill into a fence.
We’ve all been there. Most of us didn’t have a million dollars on the line, but we’ve all been there.
Update: It appears our halfcourt shooter was able to get that far despite weakness related to a lifelong disease:
@SBNation this is my fatherinlaw. He has suffered from a rare auto-immune disorder for the better part of 10 yrs thats left him a lot weaker
— Christopher Murphy (@ccmurphy7) March 14, 2015 @SBNation he won a contest for a free trip to the ACC tournament and part of it was the shot. He knew he couldn’t make it but being a (1/2)
— Christopher Murphy (@ccmurphy7) March 14, 2015 @SBNation competitor he knew he wanted to give it his all. Its physically impossible for him to make the shot but hes tough for trying (2/2)
— Christopher Murphy (@ccmurphy7) March 14, 2015 Tough indeed. The full inspirational story is at The Sporting News.
