Asking an NFL executive what he thinks of a baseball player is something a radio person does just to get a light, easy answer. Of course, if you’re a Washington executive, you can’t just do that. You’ve gotta take it somewhere weird. Here’s Scot McCloughan on Bryce Harper, via CSN Washington:
Washington football GM says Bryce Harper couldn’t play cornerback because he’s ‘a white guy’

“Ehhhhh, probably strong safety. But, I went to a game a couple weeks ago, and he flipped his hips and caught a fly ball out in right field in the corner, and I thought, maybe [cornerback]. But I’m thinking, uhh, okay, no, he’s gotta be a safety. He’s a white guy.”
Okay ... I mean, as CSN points out, Harper *was* a safety when he played youth football, so the scouting report is on point. But hey, just because there haven’t been any white cornerbacks in a while doesn’t mean Harper’s skin color disqualifies him!
All in good fun, but man ... maybe when you’re the GM of the team with the racist nickname you steer clear of unsolicited comments about race? Maybe?
