After Jake Arrieta no-hit the Dodgers (then wore pajamas), the organization sent him some souvenirs from his big night:
The Dodgers gave Jake Arrieta the gift of dirt and a huge hunk of rubber

@yoyosiegel @Cubs yes, and it weighs 60 pounds! pic.twitter.com/IwU1lmYZz6
— Jake Arrieta (@JArrieta34) September 1, 2015 Thx to the @Dodgers for taking the time to send us the pitching rubber along w/ other game mementos, it means a lot to my fam & I. #respect
— Jake Arrieta (@JArrieta34) September 1, 2015 That’s the pitching rubber from that night and Arrieta told ESPN he also got some of the dirt from the mound. My two takeaways here are:
1. Pretty cool, Dodgers!
2. I had no idea that pitching rubber was that big. Perhaps because my baby-like brain can’t comprehend three-dimensional space, I never thought about how far it dips below the surface of the mound. It’s 60 pounds! Imagine how much the Dodgers had to pay for shipping!
Anyway, I hope you enjoy your dirt and your giant brick of rubber, Jake. Congratulations.
