Jason Maxiell is a scary man on the court. This is a player who was so intimidating in the NBA, and who blocked shots so viciously, that Pistons fans coined the slogan “Jason Maxiell Eats Babies.” (He doesn’t, so far as I know.) Maxiell plays in China now for Tianjin Ronggang of the CBA, and he is still a very scary man, especially when provoked:
Michael Beasley rescued a terrified Chinese basketball player from the wrath of Jason Maxiell
So:
1. Wu Ke of the Shandong Flaming Bulls runs up behind Maxiell and delivers a pretty dirty-looking shot to the back of the neck.
2. Maxiell immediately spins around and swings a right hook, which thankfully does not connect:
3. And then the chase is on! Maxiell pursues Wu Ke the length of the court...
... before some players step in, including ... Shandong’s MICHAEL BEASLEY! He turns to a teammate like “I got this”...
... then embraces Maxiell...
... and cools his temper with some sweet whisperings:
This is unmistakable heroism. Michael Beasley may have saved a man’s life from the wrath of a baby-eater.
(h/t to the wonderful Nick Bedard at Basketball Buddha, who reports Wu Ke is now suspended 11 games)
