This crossed my Twitter timeline this morning and I almost got choked up:
American basketball player makes glorious return from Russia with In-N-Out feast
I was kinda taken aback at how emotional that photo made me. It’s American basketball player Ryan Toolson returning home from a season in Russia (nothing new for him -- he’s been playing overseas since 2009) and immediately going buckwild at In-N-Out Burger.
I have never lived or worked abroad for a long period of time, but the feeling of returning to your favorite local food after a long period quakes the spirit like nothing else. I’ve seen people brought to tears by a simple slice of pizza.
This opens up the question: If you spent a period of months away from your homeland and its foods, what would be your first meal upon returning, and how would you wildly max it out a la the multi-patty burger above?
