The Chiefs should’ve let Derrick Henry score to have a chance at overtime

KC passed on the chance to get the ball back in a one-score game with almost two minutes left on the clock. Whoops.

Titans running back Derrick Henry converted an enormous first down on third-and-10 as Tennessee was trying to run the clock out with a bit under two minutes left. The Chiefs tackled him. Huge mistake.

Andy Reid — or at least someone on his staff — should have instructed the Chiefs’ defense before the play that if the Titans converted a first down, they should’ve let them score. KC was down just a single point, 22-21, so if the Titans tacked on a touchdown, the Chiefs would have gotten the ball back still down just one score with a timeout and nearly two minutes on the clock — plenty of time to march down the field with a shot to send the game to overtime.

Sure, Henry may have had the foresight to not score, but it was worth taking the chance -- they had nothing to lose. Also, let’s not forget we’re talking about a player who has not once but twice scored unnecessary touchdowns this season when his team could have simply kneeled the clock away if he’d gone down after a first down.

For the first time ever,* Reid bungled a clock management situation — who would’ve thunk?

*Not even close to the first time ever.
