    Gotoku Sakai partially tears ankle ligament

    Gotoku Sakai suffered a partially torn ligament in his right ankle during Stuttgart’s match on Sunday. He will have an MRI scan completed Monday to determine the full extent of the damage. At this time, the club is unable to determine how long he’ll be out of action.

    Sakai, 21, was injured early in the match after a collision with Eintracht Frankfurt’s Martin Lanig. He was already carrying a different, small injury into this match, but he managed to stay on the pitch for the full 90 minutes.

    The first goal came after only 6 minutes. A cross from the left side found it’s way all the way to the back post to Christian Gentner. The midfielder volleyed the ball into the far corner for the early 1-0 lead.

    Wolfsburg used the “fired manager bump” to crush Fortuna Düsseldorf 4-1. The most exciting thing for Wolfsburg is their summer signings finally looked worthy of wearing the shirt.

    The action didn’t get started until the second half, but Wolfsburg had a field day once it started. Ivica Olic sent in a low cross to Bas Dost, and the forward beat Fabian Giefer for the 1-0 lead after 50 minutes. Wolfsburg only needed three minutes before they struck again. This time, Diego sent a long pass into Olic, and the Croatian beat Giefer with a low hard shot.

    Son, Rudnevs score as Hamburg beat Augsburg

    Hamburg kicked off the Bundesliga’s weekend with a 2-0 victory away to Augsburg. While the hosts ran hard and didn’t make it easy, Hamburg were very clinical in front of the net and scored their chances.

    Augsburg came out playing some excellent counter-attacking football in the opening ten minutes. Kevin Vogt forced a good save out of Rene Adler very early and then fed a nice pass to Tobias Werner who just missed putting the hosts ahead.
