Bayern Munich vs. VfB Stuttgart, 2013 DFB Pokal Final: Super Mario Gomez makes it 3-0

In what may very well be his last match ever in a Bayern Munich shirt, Mario Gomez made sure he would go out in style. The former Stuttgart man added a second goal in the 60th minute to give Bayern what is likely an insurmountable 3-0 lead over VfB Stuttgart.

The passing sequence leading up to the goal was pretty great. Philipp Lahm laid the ball off to Bastian Schweinsteiger, and the midfielder then played the ball down the right wing to a streaking Thomas Müller. There were no Stuttgart players within 20 yards of Müller, and he sent in an inch perfect cross on the ground to the feet of Gomez. A hard, pure strike by Gomez beat Sven Ulreich to add another goal into the Bayern column.

Gomez was then subbed out by Jupp Heynckes for the club’s “other” Mario, Mario Mandzukic to a huge ovation from the Bayern Support in the stadium. If this is the last match in a Bayern shirt for Gomez, he leaves the pitch to deafening “Super Bayern Super Bayern Hey Hey” chants due to his goals. Go press this button. Now.
