As a player known for his toughness, sense of humor and beautiful 3-point stroke, Joe Ingles is already a Utah Jazz fan favorite. But on Monday night, basketball fans across NBA Twitter were introduced to Ingles’ new alter ego: Headband Joe Ingles.
Headband Joe Ingles became NBA Twitter’s latest folk hero
He’s already the Jazz’s sharpshooter, but now he’s a legend with a T-shirt to commemorate the night he didn’t let a bloody gash stop him from securing a win against the Grizzlies.

With 3:36 remaining in the fourth quarter against the Memphis Grizzlies on Monday night, Ingles took a blow to the face from MarShon Brooks’ follow through, which caused Ingles to start gushing blood.
But Ingles, who would require four stitches after the game, wasn’t going to let the gash end his night. In fact, the 31-year-old returned to the game with a huge bandage across his head.

And just like that, the legend of Headband Joe Ingles was born.
After the injury, Ingles was far from finished. He may have been ailing with bandages on his finger and across his face, but the Australian fought through it all. He led the Jazz with 19 points, and effectively ended the game by hitting this 3-pointer with less than one minute left in the game.
The Jazz beat the Grizzlies 96-88 and we all learned: Don’t mess with Headband Joe Ingles.
NBA Twitter reacted accordingly and with delight over their new folk hero.
The Utah Jazz even changed its Twitter avatar to pay respect to what can only be known as “The Headband Game.”
And his fellow teammates loved it, too.
