He was 3-0 as Ohio State’s interim coach this season.
It’s a ‘new day’ in Columbus
With Urban Meyer announcing his retirement, Buckeyes’ offensive coordinator Ryan Day takes over as the head coach in Columbus.

He was the mastermind behind the Buckeyes’ offensive unit this year, which averaged 43.5 points per game and scored a series-high 62 points against archrival Michigan this year.
He was the play caller who helped turn Dwayne Haskins into a Heisman Finalist this season.
And now, with the news that Urban Meyer is retiring after the Rose Bowl, Ryan Day is set to become the next Ohio State head football coach.
On Tuesday, Ohio State made it official, marking the end of an era and the beginning of a new one in Columbus.
As Ian Boyd notes, Day is on the cutting edge of what’s next for modern offenses by using spread spacing to beat man-beating pass concepts. That’s why Ohio State destroyed Michigan’s top-ranked defense this year. Basically, a lot more points are coming to the Shoe.
At his introductory press conference on Tuesday, Day made it clear that he understood Buckeye Nation’s priorities.
“It didn’t take long for me to figure out what the expectations are. No. 1, win the rivalry game, and No. 2, win every game after that.”
Buckeyes fans should enjoy the sound of that.
Obviously, Day will have a tough precedent to live up to. Meyer has compiled a ridiculous 82-9 record in seven seasons with Ohio State, including his run to the 2015 National Title with three-string quarterback Cardale Jones.
Most importantly, Meyer finished his Ohio State career 7-0 vs. Michigan. We’re not counting, but for those who are, Day has exactly 359 days to prep for his first Michigan game.
