The NCAA announced on Tuesday that it would relocate five championships scheduled to be played in New Jersey, after the state published new regulations permitting sports gambling.

- Division I Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving Championships, as well as Diving Regionals
- Division I Women's Basketball Championship - Trenton Regional
- Division III Men's Volleyball Championship
- Division II and III Women's Lacrosse Championships
The move is not necessarily a reaction to the new law, but an enforcement of a current NCAA policy against playing their championships in a state that permits sports wagering -- defined as single-game betting with either a money line or point spread. This summer, New Jersey proposed new regulations that would allow sports gambling in Atlantic City casinos and at racetracks. Those proposals were then published in the New Jersey Register on Monday.
Mark Lewis, the NCAA’s executive vice president of championships and alliances, issued a statement on the decision to move the host sites:
“Consistent with our policies and beliefs, the law in New Jersey requires that we no longer host championships in the state. We will work hard in the days ahead to find new suitable host locations which will allow the student-athletes to have the best possible competitive experience.”
The NCAA will now have to work on the fly to re-arrange the host sites for all five championships, the first of which (diving regionals) was set to take place in mid-March.
