The father of Andrew Wiggins, who is widely considered to be the best high school basketball player in America, says he expects his son to reclassify from the class of 2014 to the class of 2013 and play college basketball next season.

The best high school basketball player in America is currently a member of the class of 2014. That might not be the case for much longer.

“It’s time,” Mitchell Wiggins told USA Today. “It’s time for him (to show) that he is the best in college right now. I think he is ready for the next step. Academically-wise he is doing great. Maturity-wise he is doing great. He has a lot of talent. He is ready for the next step, and everybody knows it is time. It is Andrew’s time. Next year is coming soon and he is ready.”
Andrew Wiggins, a 6’8 small forward, currently plays his basketball at Huntington Prep (W.Va.). Kentucky has long been considered the leader to land his services, although some believe the early commitments John Calipari has received from the 2013 class may have hindered the Wildcats’ chances. Florida State has also been a consistent player in the battle to land Wiggins.
In the wake of Rochester (MI) star James Young’s commitment to UK, Wiggins has stated that he’d like to be recruited by schools like North Carolina, Kansas and Ohio State, who had previously thought any efforts to land the superstar would be futile. Not surprisingly, UNC head coach Roy Williams met with Wiggins earlier this week.
Regardless of where he chooses to play, it seems likely that the college basketball world will be treated to Wiggins’ talents come the 2013-14 season.
