The University of Virginia announced that point guard Jontel Evans is expected to miss six weeks following surgery on his right foot on Tuesday. Evans began feeling discomfort in his foot sometime last week during team workouts and was ultimately diagnosed with a stress fracture.

If the six-week time table is accurate, the senior guard would be on schedule to return to the team some time around the NIT Season Tipoff, which will begin on Nov. 12. With Evans out of the lineup, freshman guards Teven Jones and Taylor Barnette could be featured more prominently, and sophomore guard Malcolm Brogdon could be expected to handle the ball more.
Last season, Evans earned All-ACC defensive team honors while averaging 7.3 points, 3.9 assists, two rebounds and 1.6 steals per game. The 21-year-old Hampton, Va., native started in all 32 games last season and helped push Virginia to its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2007.
