Roy Williams’ kidney tumor is benign
A biopsy shows the tumor on North Carolina coach Roy Williams’ kidney is benign.

North Carolina issued a statement Thursday about the results:
Dr. Eric Wallen, professor of urology at UNC, says as a result of the biopsy, coach Williams will not require surgery on the left kidney.
“The result of the biopsy of the tumor on the left side is great news for coach Williams and his family,” said Wallen. “He is recovering very well and we will continue to follow his progress. In the meantime, he can return to his normal schedule, including the team’s first practice on October 13th.”
In the news release, Williams thanked the doctors, his family and the many fans and well-wishers who reached out to support him.
North Carolina has an exhibition game Oct. 26 against Shaw and the team opens the regular season Nov. 9 against Gardner-Webb.
