Robert Upshaw injury: Fresno State center to miss 2-4 weeks

Fresno State will have to start the season without Robert Upshaw, and the highly touted freshman is expected to miss 2-4 weeks.

Cary Edmondson-US PRESSWIRE

Fresno State will have to wait a bit longer for the debut of highly touted freshman center Robert Upshaw as he is expected to miss 2-4 weeks due to a leg injury he suffered last month.

The 6’11 freshman was expected to be a big boost to a Fresno State team that went 13-20 last season. Upshaw was rated as a four-star recruit by both Scout.com and Rivals.com and was considered one of the top 100 players in the 2012 recruiting class.

Upshaw, who averaged 18 points, 11 rebounds and five blocks per game as a high school senior, isn’t expected to return until mid-November at the earliest. Fresno State opens its season Nov. 9 against Texas. If Upshaw was able to return by December 1, he would miss the Bulldogs first six games of the season.

Upshaw isn't the only question mark for Fresno State. Bulldogs leading scorer Kevin Olekaibe is dealing with an injured elbow while Braeden Anderson is yet to gain NCAA clearance. Anderson originally signed with the Kansas Jayhawks, but was deemed a partial qualifier and instead decided to sign with Fresno State.
