No. 20 Notre Dame had little trouble with Monmouth on Monday night, winning 84-57. The Fighting Irish were led by Garrick Sherman’s 22 points off the bench.

Notre Dame’s defense was stifling in the first half, holding Monmouth to just 23 points. The Irish scored 35 points of their own in the opening half and held a double-digit lead throughout the second half.
The Irish offense racked up 24 assists and shot 53.4 percent from the field. Garrick Sherman came off the bench to lead Notre Dame in scoring with 22 points, while Jack Cooley (16 points) and Pat Connaughton (13 points) also reached double figures in scoring.
Only one Monmouth player reached double-digit points, and that was guard Dion Nesmith with 13. The Hawks shot just 38.9 percent from the field and made only 2-of-11 from three-point land.
Notre Dame moved to 2-0 on the young season.
