No. 18 UNLV vs. Northern Arizona final score: Freshmen lead Rebels to impressive 92-54 opening win

A ranked UNLV team dominated Northern Arizona to open their 2012-13 season, and three freshman contributed more than half the team’s points.

The No. 18 UNLV Rebels opened their 2012-13 season with a dominating 92-54 win over Northern Arizona at home. Dave Rice has some impressive offensive weapons at his disposal, and his team was in complete rhythm on that end of the floor on Monday night. They overpowered Northern Arizona, shooting 49 percent from the field and finishing with five players in double figures.

It was newcomer freshman Anthony Bennett who got loose for UNLV and led all scorers with 22 points. Bennett, who played at nearby Findlay Prep, was extremely impressive in his debut, owning the paint against a smaller Lumberjacks club that looked overwhelmed. In addition to the scoring, he also pulled down seven rebounds.

Starters Anthony Marshall and Katin Reinhardt pitched in 14 points each, while Rice's bench contributed 35 points in the blowout. Bennett, Reinhardt, and Savon Goodman -- all freshmen -- scored more than half of UNLV's total points. Sophomore Bryce Dejean-Jones led the scoring off the bench, draining three of his four attempts from behind the arc and providing instant offense with 15 points.

After the impressive opener, the young Rebels club will take the floor next on Saturday against Jacksonville State.
