No. 15 Creighton vs. UAB final score: Blue Jays rally to avoid upset for 77-60 win

Creighton used a strong second half to put down the Blazers’ upset bid.

Eric Francis

The Creighton Blue Jays rallied from a ten-point deficit in the second half and eventually ran away from the UAB Blazers, 77-60, on Wednesday night in Omaha.

With potential National Player of the Year candidate Doug McDermott netting only five points on the night, the Blue Jays found themselves down 45-35 with less than 16 minutes left in the game. That's when backup guard Josh Jones took over. Jones, who ended the night as Creighton's leading scorer with 18 points, put in a layup, two free throws, and two three-pointers for a personal 10-0 scoring run to tie the game.

After being tied at 55-55 with ten minutes remaining, the No. 15 Blue Jays ended the game by laying a 22-5 run on the Blazers down the stretch.

Grant Gibbs and Greg Echenique added 13 points each for Creighton, while UAB's Isiah Jones scored 16 points in the loss.

Both teams next play on Sunday, as the Blue Jays host Presbyterian and UAB hosts Navy.
