The Oklahoma State Cowboys survived a second-half comeback by the Akron Zips and managed to squeeze out an overtime win, 69-65, in the opener of the Puerto Rico Tip-Off in Bayamon, Puerto Rico.

The teams entered the overtime period tied at 61, and the Zips jumped out to a 65-61 lead with 1:37 to play. The Cowboys roared back with eight unanswered points to secure the victory, paced by clutch free throw shooting by Phil Forte and freshman standout Marcus Smart
Oklahoma State (2-0) was led by sophomore swingman LeBryan Nash, who scored 18 points and grabbed seven rebounds before fouling out in overtime. Smart added 16 points, nine rebounds, three assists and four steals.
Akron (1-2) was fueled by four starters scoring in double figures, with junior guard Brian Walsh leading the way with 14 points and 10 rebounds. The Zips got 13 points from Alex Abreu, 12 points from Zeke Marshall and 10 from freshman Jake Kretzer.
