Arsalan Kazemi cleared to play for Oregon

The Ducks have learned senior forward Arsalan Kazemi has been cleared to play this season in Eugene. Kazemi averaged a double-double the past two years at Rice.

Troy Taormina-US PRESSWIRE

The Oregon Ducks basketball program received some big news on Thursday afternoon. Following an investigation by the NCAA, Rice transfer Arsalan Kazemi has been cleared to play this season. Andy Katz of ESPN was the first to report the news. Kazemi is just one of multiple impact players to leave Rice in the past year.

Kazemi, a 6’7 senior out of Esfahan, Iran, averaged a double-double the past two years with Rice. He scored 12 points and brought down a little more than 10 rebounds a night with the Owls in 2011-12, and he should do wonders for a UO frontcourt that lacked depth coming into the season.

For a team with hopes of competing for a Pac-12 title next March, his talent and experience will go a long way for head coach Dana Altman’s high-post offense.

Look for Kazemi to begin playing in games immediately now that his waiver has been accepted by the NCAA. Oregon’s next game is scheduled for Friday night against Vanderbilt.
