Russ Smith scored 18 points and Gorgui Dieng and Chane Behanan each had double-doubles as the No. 2 Louisville Cardinals beat the Samford Bulldogs 80-54 on Thursday.

Louisville’s defense held Samford to just 37 percent shooting for the game and just 13 points in the first half. Louisville led 42-13 at intermission.

The Cardinals didn't shoot well, hitting just 39 percent from the field overall -- 22 percent from three-point range and 57 percent from the free throw line, although some of that poor shooting can be attributed mainly to two players. Wayne Blackshear and Luke Hancock were a combined 2-for-18 from three.

Smith shot 7-for-14 and made 4-of-7 three-pointers. Dieng had 10 points, 12 rebounds and five assists. Behanan had 12 points and 16 rebounds.

Tim Williams and Raijon Kelly were the only two Bulldogs in double figures. Williams scored 15 points and Kelly had 11.

Louisville improved to 2-0 with the win. Samford is now 1-2.
