Speaking to the media on Thursday, Karl Towns Sr. cited his son’s 4.0 grade point average, and his access to college courses as possible motivating factors which could influence his son to choose a university early. There’s no shortage of schools looking to add Towns’ rare combination of size and skill, as the No. 1 prospect for 2015 has had numerous coaches court him. But it appears that Kentucky is his likely landing sport after Towns attended last week’s Maryland-Kentucky game.
The decision to reclassify isn’t a new one. Four top recruits from the 2014 class elected to reclassify to 2013, including top recruit Andrew Wiggins, who has yet to commit to a school, but like Towns has been heavily recruited by Kentucky.
With the prevalence of college courses offered at the high school level, paired with players looking to get a jump-start on their careers, this reclassification process could be par for the course moving forward.
