Majerus’ absence from the team for the rest of the season wasn’t a surprise to the school.

Miklasz also notes interim head coach Jim Crews will be in charge of the team the rest of the way this season. Majerus is continuing to struggle with a heart problem after stepping down as the head coach in August. He was the head coach of the Billikens for five seasons with his greatest success at the school coming last year with a trip to the third round of the NCAA Tournament. He led his 1997-1998 Utah Utes team to the national championship game, where they lost to the Kentucky Wildcats.
Majerus has had health issues in the past. After taking the head coaching job at Southern California in 2004, he resigned just five days later citing health related problems.
