Oregon State loses Angus Brandt for the season

Oregon State center Angus Brandt will be sidelined for the rest of the 2012-13 college hoops season with a leg injury.

After seriously injuring his leg in the fourth game of the year, Oregon State senior center Angus Brandt was ruled out for the remainder of the 2012-13 season by Beavers head coach Craig Robinson on Sunday night.

The 6’10 big man’s campaign opened with a great deal of promise due to his expanded role in Oregon State’s offense as both a perimeter shooter and post scorer, and he responded immediately with three strong performances to open the year. The unfortunate injury against Purdue on Friday ultimately strips Robinson of one of the most versatile centers in the Pac-12 this season however, and it will force Brandt to work his way back from a serious injury for the first time in his collegiate career.

Brandt’s specific injury remains unclear at the moment, but Robinson already confirmed that his Australian-born center will appeal to the NCAA for another year of eligibility. Since he only managed to suit up on four occasions, he appears to be a mortal lock to land a fifth and final year in college with the Beavers. Off to an impressive 41.6% mark from three-point range before his injury, Brandt’s improving perimeter skills will definitely make him a player to keep an eye on when the 2013-14 season rolls around.
