The beginning of the season is usually a time for big-name programs to take advantage of smaller schools as they get their seasons started on the right foot. But the Villanova Wildcats were victims of the upset bug early, falling to the Columbia Lions, 75-57, on Tuesday at home.

The Wildcats were shocked at home by the Lions in a game nobody expected them to lose.

The Lions were up by four at the half, and then outscored the Wildcats by 14 points in the second half to pull out the win. The Lions were led by Alex Rosenberg's 21 points and six rebounds.
Neither team could shoot the ball, as the Lions shot 38 percent from the field while the Wildcats shot 37.3 percent. But the Lions won the game at the free-throw line, hitting 26 of their 30 attempts compared to 16-for-28 from the Wildcats. That differential, coupled with the Lions hitting 11 of their 31 three-pointers, adds up to an early-season upset.
The Wildcats only had two players in double-figures, led by James Bell's 13 points and six rebounds.
The Wildcats fell to 3-2 ,while the Lions improved to 3-1.
