The No. 15 Michigan State Spartans (3-1) were forced to fend off a tough challenge from the Boise State Broncos (3-1) before holding on to win, 74-70 at the Breslin Center.

Michigan State struggled to shake Boise State before holding on for a win at the Breslin Center.


Guard Keith Appling scored four points in the final fifteen seconds to put away the win for Michigan State. Boise State guard Mikey Thompson cut the lead to two points with less than a minute to play before Appling and the Spartans sealed up the win.
Boise State served notice early that they would be a problem for Michigan State, jumping out to a nine-point lead midway through the first half. The Spartans rallied to take a 38-32 lead at half time but were never able to shake the Broncos.
Boise State rallied from a nine-point deficit early in the second half to make Michigan State earn the win on their home court.
Appling led the way for the Michigan State with 22 points and seven assists, while Denzel Valentine scored four of his 12 points in the final three minutes to help secure the Spartans' win.
Derrick Marks scored a game-high 24 points for Boise State with Thompson pitching in 14 points off the bench.
Michigan State is back in action on Friday when they host Oakland. Boise State returns home to play UC-Santa Barbara on Saturday.
