No. 1 Indiana vs. Georgetown: Hoosiers survive overtime scare, win 82-72

The top-ranked Hoosiers survived a scare and held off a spirited effort from the Hoyas to win the Progressive Legends Classic championship.

The No. 1 Indiana Hoosiers (5-0) needed an overtime period to beat the Georgetown Hoyas (3-1), 82-72, in the championship game of the Progressive Legends Classic at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Indiana finally took control of a tight game in the second half with an 8-0 run fueled by junior Will Sheehey and freshman point guard Yogi Ferrell. Just after the midway point of the second half, the score was tied at 51 when Sheehey got free for a layup to start Indiana's run at the win.

Georgetown struggled to play from behind the rest of the way, but cut the lead to one point with 31 seconds remaining thanks to a pair of long three pointers from Markel Starks and Otto Porter. Ferrell made the front end of two free throws to put the Hoosiers ahead 64-62 with 25 seconds left in the half, but Porter sunk a jumper with six seconds left to send the game to overtime.

The Hoosiers pulled away in the overtime period, opening with a 6-0 run that essentially put the game out of reach. Indiana never looked back and outscored the Hoyas, 18-8, in the overtime period.

Sophomore center Cody Zeller led the way for Indiana with 16 points and seven rebounds and sank a few key free throws in overtime to secure the win for the Hoosiers. Jordan Hull added 17 points and three assists.

Porter paced the Hoyas attack with 15 points, five rebounds and four assists in the loss.
