Kobe calls Jack Taylor’s game ‘incredible’, explains the benefits of 138 points

There are not many who can relate to Jack Taylor and scoring 138 points in a basketball game, but Kobe Bryant is one of them, and he put it all in perspective Tuesday night.MORE: Check out Taylor’s stats in the box score.

138 points, 100 shots, and definitely the most insane box score in the history of college basketball--Jack Taylor blew everyone’s mind Tuesday night. As it turns out, this included Kobe Bryant. And because news travels fast and the internet is great, after the Lakers win over the Nets Tuesday night, we got to read exactly what happened as the Mamba found out about Taylor’s exploits.

Lakers beat writer Dave Mcmenamin blesses us with the transcription:

Bryant: “Holy sh--. How many points did they score as a team?”
Reporter: “179.”
Bryant: “What?!”
Reporter: “No other starter had double figures.”
Bryant: “That’s incredible.”
Reporter: “Dude on the other team scored 71 points and lost.”
Bryant: “That’s amazing. He must have been wearing the Mambas, man. Only Mambas have no conscious [sic] to shoot the ball like that.”
Reporter: “If you did that, would people be celebrating you?”

Bryant: “Would people be celebrating me if I scored 138 points? You know how it is, some people would, some people wouldn’t. They can all kiss my a-- as I’m sure he feels the same way. If you score 138 points, you kind of have a license to tell people to f--- off.”

Take it to heart, Jack Taylor. 138 points gives you license to do pretty much whatever you want. In closing: God bless Kobe Bryant, God bless the reporter who asked him about it, and most importantly, can we please start calling Jack Taylor the Grinnell Mamba?
