Georgetown held on to win what will likely be one of the uglier games in this or any other season, as the Hoyas knocked off the Tennessee Volunteers, 37-36. Early in the second half, it appeared this would be a "first to 40" type game, but as it turned out, not even that much was needed to pick up the Big East/SEC Challenge win.

Not a single player was in double figures, and both teams shot well below 40 percent from the field and less than 20 percent from three-point range. Both teams had a shot to win it down the stretch, but it was a continual string of missed shots and turnovers.
John Thompson III is well-known for his use of the Princeton offense, which often slows down the game and runs the shot-clock down with multiple cuts on a single possession. But this was just 40 sluggish minutes for both sides in both halves, and JTIII called it the "ugliest game that I have ever been a part of at any level." Georgetown's impressive sophomore trio of Greg Whittington, Otto Porter, and Mikael Hopkins led the Hoyas with eight points each. On the defensive end, the Vols struggled to get any penetration against the zone and committed 12 turnovers.
Jarnell Stokes, who has been one of Cuonzo Martin's key players on the offensive end and the Vols leading scorer, had just four field goal attempts. Stokes had a chance to put the Vols ahead, but Tennessee ran the shot clock down with less than a minute to play and he was forced to launch a desperation three from the corner. Their final possession was not much better, as they had to settle for two low-percentage, contested shots and the Hoyas escaped with the one-point win.
