Five-star forward Austin Nichols commits to Memphis
Power forward Austin Nichols picks Memphis over Duke and Tennessee, adding a fifth commitment to Josh Pastner’s 2013 class.

Nichols chose Memphis over offers from the Duke Blue Devils, Tennessee Volunteers, Auburn Tigers, Vanderbilt Commodores and Virginia Cavaliers. Duke and Tennessee were considered the favorites to land Nichols before his decision to stay near home and commit to Memphis.
The decision by Nichols gives Memphis coach Josh Pastner five current commitments in his 2013 class. The Tigers' 2013 recruiting class also includes commitments from Kuran Iverson, Nick King, Rashawn Powell and Markel Crawford.
Heading into the 2012-13 season, the Tigers are ranked No. 16 in the USA Today Coaches Poll and No. 17 in the AP Top 25. Memphis begins the new season on Monday, Nov. 12, at home against the North Florida Osprey.
