No. 19 Baylor vs. Lehigh final score: Bears crush Mountain Hawks, 99-77

The Bears’ blowout win in their season opener was overshadowed by an ankle injury suffered by freshman phenom Isaiah Austin.

The No. 19 Baylor Bears made quick work of Lehigh on Friday, blowing out the Mountain Hawks 99-77 in their regular season opener at the Ferrell Center.

Junior forward Cory Jefferson led the way for the Bears with 26 points and 14 rebounds, while guard Pierre Jackson added 14 points and 12 assists. Baylor pulled out to a 20-10 lead on a three-pointer by Deuce Bello with 13:55 left in the first half and never looked back.

it wasn't all good news for Baylor, as freshman phenom Isaiah Austin left with an ankle injury in the second half. The 7'1 center stepped on someone's foot and rolled his right ankle while driving to the basket with 16 minutes left in the half and had to be helped off the floor without putting any weight on the injured foot. Austin was impressive in his Bears debut, scoring 22 points on 10 of 12 shooting from the field. The extent of the injury is not known at this time.

Lehigh’s offense was a one-man show paced by senior guard C.J. McCollum, who dropped 36 points on Baylor and added eight rebounds and two assists in the Mountain Hawks’ loss.

Baylor’s next test will come Sunday, Nov. 11, when they play host to the Jackson State Tigers. Tipoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. CT at the Ferrell Center.
