One of college basketball’s marquee opening weekend games has been called off due to weather, and it appears the game will not be made up.

The Carrier Classic between the Ohio State Buckeyes and Marquette Golden Eagles has been canceled due to condensation on the court. The decision to call the game was made by both schools' coaches and athletic directors, and is not expected to be rescheduled this season.

The game was set to be played on a U.S. aircraft carrier docked in Charleston, S.C., but a drop in temperature at sunset brought condensation to the court. Game crews and even players and coaches worked to wipe the floor dry, but the condensation reappeared, forcing the cancellation. The game’s braintrust waited as long as possible to see if the game could go on, even extending pre-game warm ups by 20 minutes.

The Carrier Classic is one of three college basketball games on Friday night tied to the armed forces. The Michigan State Spartans and Connecticut Huskies opened the night playing in a hangar at Ramstein Air Base in Germany, and the Florida Gators and Georgetown Hoyas will tip off at 9 p.m. ET aboard in aircraft carrier in Jacksonville, Fla.
